What Steady Eddie Is

The operator is hardware.
The machine stays stock.

An Eddie is a removable machine operator — physical hardware, not a software add-on and not a rewiring kit. Every product is two pieces: a dock that installs once at the operator station of a specific machine, and an Eddie unit that drops into the seat when you need an operator and lifts back out when you don't.

Once docked, Eddie runs the machine the way a person does: its actuators work the machine's own joysticks, levers, pedals and switches — the stock controls the manufacturer put in the cab. It never plugs into the machine's electronics — no CAN bus, no ECU, no firmware, ever. Nothing is rewired, nothing is reflashed, no OEM sign-off is needed — and because Eddie never depends on the machine having electronics in the first place, it works on a new excavator and on decades-old iron alike.

Where the program stands, honestly: every product is a FIELD TEST engineering release — buildable, documented engineering running on the bench today, not certified product. No hardware ships today, and registering interest is exactly that — a registration of interest, not a purchase.

Eddie never plugs into the machine. It touches only what a human operator touches — the joysticks, levers, pedals and switches the manufacturer put there. There is no electronic integration of any kind, on any product, on any machine. That one rule is the whole architecture, and everything else on this site follows from it.

How It Works

Five steps. All mechanical.

Step 01

A Human Starts the Machine

Every session begins the way it always has: with the operator. A human walks around the machine, completes their own pre-start inspection, starts it themselves and clears it for operation. Only after that does Eddie engage the controls — every time, on every package.

Step 02

The Dock Installs Once

A passive dock mounts at the operator station. It installs once and stays with the machine. No wiring into the machine — the dock is hardware, not integration.

Step 03

Eddie Drops In

When you need the seat filled, an Eddie unit lifts into the cab, sets into the dock and locks. Minutes, not a retrofit project.

Step 04

Eddie Works the Stock Controls

Actuators move the machine's own joysticks, levers and pedals — the same motions, the same inputs, the same machine behaviour as a human operator. Every actuator carries a manual release.

Step 05

Eddie Lifts Out

When the work is done, Eddie lifts out. The seat is clear, the machine is stock, and your operator climbs back in. One Eddie can move between every docked machine in the yard.

Behind every released SE-X number is a complete GOLD STANDARD engineering package — CAD, BOM, dimensioned drawings, electrical and software design, manuals and a brochure. All 44 products carry that full package today. Two of the 44 — SE-X001 and SE-X006 — have also passed full independent technical and safety review.

Every unit in the catalogue — all 44 — runs on the bench at Steady Eddie today. Each released package is FIELD TEST-labeled: proven on the bench, not yet verified in service on a customer's machine.
